Day 8: Segovia

After I returned from my day at the museum, the dudes were feeling better so we went out for some soup at a local Thai joint we marked as a favorite. We discussed plans to take a day trip to Segovia the next day, and it seemed Tim and Raf were in better spirits, but not 100%. We awoke and decided to go, and I think we were all glad to get out of Madrid for a day and out of the house. I did some research on Segovia, and it promised a picturesque old Spanish town. When we arrived via bus, I was a bit skeptical, but upon further walking we discovered the town. One of the main sights, the Roman Aqueduct, is an impressive and amazing structure. Built around 1000 years ago, and having not one drop of mortar or cement, it is an engineering marvel. Used for transporting water from the mountains, it is about 15km long, but the main structure sits on top of the busy town square...

This was not an easy place to leave, each of us had cameras and couldn't decide to stop taking pictures. We were like little kids, touching the rocks and standing up next to it staring up at it like some sort of giant. We finally pushed on though the narrow streets and worn walls of the Segovians.

We picked up some strawberries from a market, the color was excellente!

Next stop on route was another cathedral. Some stunning architecture on display...

It would be a difficult task to top these two parts of Segovia, but ahead on the edge of town there was still a castle to visit. The fortified Alcazar is a 13th century roman structure that burned down in 1862 but was subsequently rebuilt. This castle was said to have inspired the castle at Disney...

First things first, the gift shop....

The inside rooms and ceilings were stunning golds and reds....

Some great views from the Torre de Juan...

Tim snagged a quick nap on the way home...

We were greeted with a sunset when we got back...

...and the end to a perfect day?

Paella!

Thanks for all the wonderful sights and comments. Is the Paella as good as Armandos?
